School has gotten off to a rather strange start this year. Instead of the usual start-up procedures, we had a visit from Hurricane Irene that delayed the start of school for many of you. As we sat down to make the calendar for the year, we did not anticipate having a hurricane to start off the new year! Because of that, many young people in our state missed the first few days of school. As I read some of your comments on Facebook, a couple of our astute teens asked the question if the days missed counted as days off from school and if they would have to make them up. The response from a fellow teenager believed that they would not have to because there was no power. Unfortunately for those who missed school, those days count just like snow days. Once you have crossed over you allotted days to miss, you have to make those days up.
But it got me to thinking about the way we reason things out sometimes. We think that there are some things that are not so bad or that they are really not that big of a deal, yet when we look in God's Word we find that He does not excuse those things. At the end of our lives, we must answer to a holy God. We are not measured according to what we think or believe; we are judged according to God's absolute holiness. The culture we live in tells us that we can do whatever we want and not worry about answering to anyone, but God tells us that we will have to stand one day and answer to Him.
Yes, the days will have to be made up. It is required to be in school a certain amount of time. Whether it is a hurricane, heat, snow, or any other reason for missing school, you still have to meet the requirements laid down by the Board of Education. One day we will stand before God and answer according to His requirements. How will you do that day that you must give an account?
